Weekend Update and then some...

On Saturday we had the twins' baptisms.  It was a great day.  We had lots of family who traveled to be here.  It made the day even better.  Everything went smoothly.  It was perfect.  Except that I forgot to take pictures.  I snapped a few before the baptism, but that was it.  I totally forgot, oh well.  The day reminded me of the day that they got blessed.  I don't know why.  I think it is because it literally seems like we did that yesterday.  And seeing Kirk bless one after another reminded me of that.  He is such a good dad and did a great job.

A couple of weeks before the baptism the twins mentioned something about all of the presents they got for their birthday and how they were going to get even more for their baptism.  We immediately reminded them that their baptism was not a birthday and they would not be receiving any more gifts.  We did not want them to expect anything.  But everyone was so generous and they did receive a lot.  But they were genuinely surprised and equally grateful.  They are such sweet boys.  It was a beautiful day.

Monday night we went to dinner and the Jazz game with Kirk's boss.  I have met him and his wife a Christmas parties, but that is it.  I am not very good at these kinds of social situations.  And I don't feel very comfortable either.  Kirk does so good in social situations, I am glad I married him.  And he obviously knows these people way more than I do.  So they all chatted about politics, sports, and stuff that I know nothing about.  His boss's wife recently ran for mayor of slc and is very intelligent and involved.  Being with all of them was a good reminder to me that I am totally out of "it" by being a stay at home mom.  Oh well.  I love being at home.  This other couple has 2 young boys who are cared for by a nanny.  I couldn't help but feel bad for those kids and for their parents for missing out on so much.  Another person I felt bad for was the 3 WEEK old baby who was next to me at the Jazz game.  To make it worse, it was the grandma who was holding him.  You would think at least she would know better, but I guess not.  He slept through most of the game, but you could see him start to cry when it got real noisy.

Yesterday I was talking on the phone with one of my good friends.  We were talking about none other than all of the yummy Easter candy out there, when all of the sudden my doorbell rang.  It was the neighbor boy with a brand new bad of Reese's Pieces Peanut butter eggs.  You know the ones that I couldn't stop eating the other day?  Obviously Janice is trying to sabotage my diet.  It doesn't take much though.  With all the yummy food on Saturday (baptism), strawberry shortcake on Sunday, out to dinner on Monday (luckily it was sushi), strawberry spinach salad with fried won tons and brownies (I had to make a salad and dessert to take to a family) last night, and tonight?  Well I am making salad and dessert again to take to another family.  It has been a rough week.  I weigh in tomorrow.  Tune back in and I will let you know how it went.

I did take one picture on Saturday after we left for the baptism.  I like it a lot.  It is Ethan and Tyler with their uncles, who they also resemble, don't you think?

Everything is Better With Sun...and a Funeral

After my race in Moab, I sort of swore off running.  I've had enough.  I don't ever want to run on a treadmill or listen to my shuffle again!  Music is a big part of the race for me.  A song that is fast pace and that I like gives me the mental capability to keep going.  It sounds so silly, but it is so true.

So I took a couple days off from the gym.  I have been only 3 times this week.  On 2 of those days I did weight lifting classes.  On the other, we just did bikes and walked.  It has been nice.  I have only run 1 mile.  And tomorrow, no big run for me!  I am going to take it easy (well, not really since I come from a big family and tomorrow is the baptism and we will have lots of people we love here).  I don't have to put in any mileage, it will be nice!

And since the race, I have not listened to my ipod.  I really don't want to hear those "running" songs again.  It is to early.  Or so I thought...

I am driving this week in our carpool.  Every morning, I have driven the kids to school in the snow.  It has been depressing.  Except for today.  Even though it is FREEZING out there, the sky is blue and the sun is shining!  Hallelujah!  So on the way home from school, one of my running songs came on the radio.  I turned up the volume.  I wanted to be outside running.  It looked so pretty.  I think I am addicted.  I will probably run some more.  And I am kind of excited about it.

Now for the funeral part.  My gym buddy is going on a cruise.  Isn't she lucky?  I think so.  In an effort for her to be ready for her bikini;) we joined weight watchers.  When she picked me up, I told her it felt like we were going to a funeral (I was even wearing black).  My love affair with food is going to have to die!  I mourned this death by eating chocolate chip cookies when I got home.  They were hot and they were good!  Oh it is sad, but it will be good.

I Can't Stop Eating These!

Have you tried these?  They are super yummy!  My kids got some from grandma and now I can't stop eating them.  They are so darn good!  The older I get, the more I realize Easter is all about candy.  Well, you know, I mean Easter according to the world.  I have been unsuccessful in getting my children to believe in the Easter bunny.  Who invented that anyways?  It is kind of creepy!  And while I think Easter Egg hunts are fun, they don't relate to Easter at all.  Bunny's don't lay eggs do they?  But the candy!  Oh the candy is sooo good!  Coupled with my dinner from Taco Time (don't you just love that place as well?)  it is a bad week for me!

Baptism Prep 101

The first thought that went through my head this morning was, "What do I have to do today?  I hope I can get a nap in."  The fact that the snow is really coming down outside is not helping either.  I hope this day does not drag on!

Yesterday a member of the primary presidency came by to go over some stuff for the twins' upcoming baptisms.  She shared with them a cute acronym, K.A.T.  It is to help them remember their baptismal covenant.  Keep the commandments, Always remember Him, and Take His name upon you.   Before she told them what each letter stood for, she asked what they thought it might be.  Jacob totally jumped in and said, "To stretch out like a cat and get your claws ready!"  He was totally serious, it was hilarious.  She explained what the K stood for and then asked what the A might stand for.  Jacob replied, "appetite?"  Again, I had to laugh.  She gave them their clothing and went over a few things to remember.  After she explained it all, Jacob added, "and don't come out naked!"  Those boys keep me laughing.

Last week they attended their first pack meeting.  And they got to do flag ceremony.  It was a pretty big deal.  Later when grandma asked David about it he said, "It was so embarrassing!  We didn't even have our patches sewn on!"

It's Hard to Believe...

It's hard to believe that I got a sunburn this weekend.  My lips are still chappy and my shoulders are red.  Now it is snowing.  A lot.  That is a Utah spring for you.

It's hard to believe that I ran 13 miles again.  It is a long way.  And it is hard to believe I actually liked it the first time.  Now I am not so sure.  As I crossed the finish line, I asked my friend, "why do we do this?"  Because I am starting to wonder.  It was a hard race.  Although we wanted some warm weather, it was a little too warm for me.  Of course starting at 10:00am didn't help either.

But it is not hard to believe that we had a great weekend.  Great scenery, great friends, great food, great times.  It was the best!

I Started Running Because I Wanted to be Skinny...

Last year I had a wild and crazy idea to run a half marathon.  When I started training, I said to my friend, "Just think, by the time this is over, we are going to be so skinny!"  Because everyone I know that runs is skinny.  Well I have since learned that running does not make me skinny.  I wish it did.  That would be great and I would be so skinny.  If anything, running makes me put on weight.  So far I have learned that there really is no easy way to be skinny.  For me, I just have to quit eating so much.  And that apparently is harder than running a half marathon.

My second half marathon is coming up.  I am excited and nervous.  It is exciting because I am not injured or suffering from a lot of pain.  I hope it stays that way.  I think training on a treadmill has actually been to my advantage.  I am nervous because it is just scary to think of what is ahead.  It should be a great time.

So even though running is not making me skinny, it is still worth it.  There is nothing better than finishing a long distance.  You feel so powerful and accomplished.  It is the best.  I can't wait!

*I am not fishing for compliments.  I realize I may not qualify for "The Biggest Loser", but I would still like to weigh about 20 lbs less.

My Grandma's Bread

My grandma used to make bread.  I am sure she never bought bread.  She was always making bread when we would visit.  She lived far enough away that our visits would last for at least 2 days.  So we always got to witness her making bread or at least that is how I remember it.  My grandma lived through the depression and she was not one to waste.  So after she made her bread, she would open her drawer of baggies (that were used, she washed and dryed them), and bag up her bread.  I never saw a new bag or ziploc at her house, ever.  She is old enough now that she cannot live on her own and she doesn't make bread anymore.  She lived a frugal life, saving every penny she could along the way.

These tough times make me think of my grandma.  She made a lot of sacrifices and learned not to waste and to be frugal.  She really exemplified that saying, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!"  I say tough times, but really they aren't that tough.  People before us have gone through much more.  My grandma was one of them.

Sometimes when I am running, I think of the pioneers.  I imagine them looking down on all the people running around for exercise and thinking, "Those people are totally crazy!  Running for fun?  What kind of world is this?"  They probably never had enough food to be obese and they "walked, and walked, and walked," and never had the need for extra physical activity.  Not to mention the family, lands, homes, farms, etc, that they left behind to follow the prophet.  They were hard working people who loved the Lord.

There has always been tragedy in the world.  There has always been sacrifice.  But there has also always been joy.   Sometimes we let the "tough times" get in the way, but they shouldn't.  I think we all could use more joy and happiness in our lives.  Sometimes I find happiness in buying new things (Yes, it is true.  New things do make me happy).  I hope I can find more happiness in my life.  The kind of happiness that doesn't have to come through "things".  Because really they are just things.  My grandma's bread wouldn't have tasted any better if she would have had new baggies to put it in.

*FYI the recipe winner was chosen randomly.  I asked my husband to pick a number between 1 and 15.  He said 9 and then Amy won.  And I don't have the recipe for my grandma's bread, although I should, it is very good.

I Feel Old

The twins are 8 today....I feel old today.  Time goes by just as fast as everyone says.  Kirk bought them BB guns and I bought them clothes:)  They both really wanted some sport related clothing.  David loves BYU and Jacob likes U of U.  I admit, I couldn't buy U of U stuff.  I know it's silly, but I couldn't do it.  They each have a little money, so we will shop later and they can buy whatever they want.  I am hoping Jacob finds something he likes better:)  Man, I love those twins, they are the best!

Happy Birthday Blog!

It has been one year today since I started blogging.  I had no idea how much I would enjoy it.  As Kirk and I lay in bed laughing about the days' happenings he even said, "that's the great thing about your blog, you write it all down."  And it is true.  I am so glad to have my blog.

So in honor of the one year anniversary I thought about doing a giveaway.  I don't really have many talents.  But I do posses a lot of great recipes.  So leave a comment and one winner will be chosen randomly.  And you will win a collection of our family's favorite recipes.  They will be more family and ingredient friendly than gourmet.  And they may or may not be done before the month is over.  I will announce the winner on Monday.  But for now, here is a link for a free roast beef sandwich at Arby's.

Something's Fishy

Lately one of our favorite dinners has been baked salmon and roasted potatoes.  It is easy and the last time we had it, the kids gobbled it up.  There weren't even any left overs.  I remember hearing how you have to expose your kids to something new about 3 times before they will like it or acquire a taste for it.  After our last salmon dinner I thought, "Wow!  It's really true, now they all like salmon."

Well, I was wrong.  We had salmon, green beans, and roasted potatoes last night for dinner.  David and Jacob were not happy about this.  Ethan and Tyler gobbled theirs up and asked for seconds.  David finished off his vegetables first and slowly got through the salmon.  Jacob just quit.  I told him to leave his plate out because I wanted him to finish his fish.  He would leave for a few minutes and come back.  However he was not making much progress.  Until he picked up his plate and went to the bathroom.  Then he reappeared all happy saying he was done.  I knew better.  I told him that if I went in there and found it in the garbage, he was going to be in big trouble.  He insisted it was not in the garbage, but I could tell he knew he had been caught.  So I asked if he flushed it down the toilet.  Which he admitted to, with tears welling up in his eyes.  Trying to keep a straight face, both Kirk and I got after him for lying.  He was devastated.  I had to try so hard not to laugh.

I told Jacob that parents have special powers to know when their kids lie.  And I know he totally believed me.  I love that about Jacob and David, they are so trusting and sweet.  And they always feel sooo bad when they do something wrong.  It is just they way they are.  I feel so lucky to have such special spirits in my home.  And I have really learned to appreciate these qualities because not all of my children are this way.  Anyway, we laughed a lot last night as we thought about Jacob and his fish.

Little Friends

Today my boys all had friends over and I heard and saw some funny things I didn't want to forget. The first was when one of them said (in all seriousness), "My mom says when we start to drive you crazy to call her and she will come get us." The next was when Tyler's little friend went to leave. She paused at the door and said, "Tyler, I love you." To which he replied, "Love you too, now go home." And the last thing happened as I was preparing dinner. All of the kids were in the basement playing. One of them came upstairs and proceeded to raid my cupboards looking for a snack. I am glad he feels so comfortable in our house. Kids are the best!

Oops! We did it again!

Yes, we forgot about the time change come Sunday morning. Kirk was the one who discovered this. He quickly returned from his early morning meetings (which he had already missed), with an urgent look on his face, "We forgot to turn back our clocks!"

"oh crap!"

We rushed to get the kids ready and then I stayed behind to dry my hair. Last time we did this, I thought for sure it would never happen again.

I Don't Even Know How to Play

It all started when David got a chess game for his DS.  The boys became more interested in chess and Kirk has taught them all.  Tyler can set up the board, but has his own rules.  The rest of them are pretty good.  I wouldn't know because I don't even know how to play.

A couple of weeks ago the boys brought home a paper from school advertising a chess tournament.  They all wanted to do it, so we signed them up.  We didn't know what we were getting into.  I had no idea there were so many little kids who were so good at chess.  Probably about half of the players in their group had ratings or scores.  About 1/4 of them could speak another language besides English.  And the parents, well some of them were just as intense.

Overall it was a great experience for the boys.

They played a total of 5 different times and they all won some and lost some.  It was fun, they each got a medal.  It took most of our day, but it was a fun time.

Later that night we did a little family work out.  I wish I had pictures of that.  It was pretty darn funny.  My boys put on their basketball shorts sans shirts.  It was a wild time in the basement complete with fun music and lots of movement.  The boys can't wait to do it again.  My brother recently reminded me that when we were little we had this record.

It was called "Mousercise" (my mom was really into jazzercise).  Anyway, it was this record that came with a booklet and had little exercises to do.  It was Mickey Mouse and other disney characters.  We used to love that thing.

A Bar of Soap

It was one of those days.  One of those days where we were all an hour or two short on our sleep.  A recipe for disaster.  Ethan successfully managed to argue with everyone that day.  But then his dad came home.  We were all happy.  The boys had been out playing basketball and wanted their dad to come out and watch.  Kirk grabbed the camera and followed them out.  Later I heard Ethan.  He was yelling and screaming.  This is not uncommon when he is short on sleep and things don't go his way.  He is loud and can really loose it.  And by loose it I mean he is usually crying, yelling, veins are popping out on his neck, and he is mad!  This is what happened last night.  He was mad because he thought David had double-dribbled during his last basket which meant David won.  Ethan didn't think it should count because of the double-dribble.  Well, Kirk saw what happened and told Ethan there was no double-dribble.  He had even recorded the whole thing.  Nothing could convince Ethan otherwise though.  He had already lost it and had to carry out the destruction.  He said some pretty nasty things to his dad.  I told Kirk to get a bar of soap and wash his mouth out.  So he did.  Ethan was still irate.  He later took it out on me and so I told him to watch it, or he would get the soap again.  At this point the corners of his mouth turned up and he gave me a wicked little smile.  But he did not let up and got the soap again.  But when he smiled at me I realized something.  He had made his stance and nothing we said or did was going to change that.  He would continue to think whatever he wanted regardless.  It reminded me of someone.  I may or may not have been like this as a kid.

Why I Really Like 'The Bachelor'....

Well, it ended last night.  And it ended with a pretty dumb episode.  Mostly just a repeat.  But at least at this point they are still together.  There is something exciting about watching two people fall in love.  You can see it in their eyes.  You can almost feel it when they kiss.  And the beauty of "reality" tv is that they make you feel like it is real.  And I suppose sometimes it is.  And that is just it.  I see those people falling in love and their excitement is contagious.  I remember that I used to get butterflies because of my husband.  I remember how exciting and fun it was and still is when I put forth the energy and time.  And so after watching 'The Bachelor' I want to see my husband.  I want to look at him with the same eyes as when we were falling in love.  And then I want to kiss him.  And then...(dot, dot, dot).

Love This/Hate This

Love these! They are super yummy!

801-***-****
Hate this! I can't tell you have many times I have had to redial my phone numbers in the past couple of days.

A Bad Hair Day

Ok, let's start off with the Bachelor. It was awesome! First of all that whole Deanna thing was sooooo scripted and awkward. Weird! Didn't you just love how when Jason goes to break up with Melissa, Chris (the host), stands up and leaves in order to give them some space! What space? The rest of America is watching on! I laughed out loud when she swore at him under her breath. But I do have to say, she really seemed to have a great attitude while the cameras rolled in the limo. And the best part? What happened to Molly's hair when she came back? Did they just pull her out of bed? It is bad enough to have all things private and personal on air for the world to see, but wouldn't you at least do your hair? And come on, after all of that, do you really think she would be so eager to take him back? Another episode tonight? Sweet, can't wait!

The girl who does my hair is wonderful. She lives close by and has a little salon in her basement. She had a baby and took off some time. Too much time for my hair. I thought I could make it, but I couldn't. After several bad hair days and many more gray hairs, I went somewhere else. Somewhere new. It is always scary. Since we are going into spring, I thought I would lighten a little. Well folks, I got lightened a lot. Whenever I get my hair colored, it always looks fine in their light. Then I come home and look in my mirror under my lights and I want to put a bag over my head. Oh well. It is a lot lighter. But I will get used to it. I usually do.

My coupon/bargain grocery shopping has been going well. And it has been super easy. I can't believe how easy. I am really enjoying it. My boys all need new shoes. I wish there were some coupons for those. I have learned to stay away from Payless. My boys are too hard on shoes. I end up paying a little more, but they last a LOT longer. It saves in the long run. Although they think their Shaquil O'Neil basketball shoes from Payless are the bomb. I think so too! They don't wear those enough to wear them out and that is what Payless is really good for, right?

I was tagged to post the fourth photo from my fourth folder. Well I am embarrassed to say that since I have had this computer, I still have not transferred everything over. I really need some lessons. I know this mac has possibilities that I do not even know about. Anyone want to teach me? For now, here is my fourth picture. It is Tyler at the airport on our way to Hawaii.

Some Things I Love...

Today I am in love with this bedding. If money were of no concern to me, I would paint my room green and order this bedding. I love it! I love the crisp white and the refreshing green. Of course money is of concern for me and I will not be ordering this or expecting to order it anytime soon, just daydreaming.

Today I went running. I LOVE running. Yes, it is hard. No, it is not even fun when you are trying to get up a hill. But it has its moments. A big moment is when you are done and you just feel so darn good! I love it!

Today I also thought about how much I love my neighborhood. We have some really great friends. I feel so blessed to live among them. And as far as running goes, I don't think I could live in a better place. There are some great places to run. And most of my neighborhood runs. So even though I can't keep up with them, it is fun to be outside exercising and see so many people, many of whom I know.

Ethan got to have a sleep over at this cousin's house this weekend. I love him and miss him so much! Our family is not the same when it is not complete. He is in good hands and I am sure he is having a great time, but I really miss him. I love being with my family. It is the best!

Modbe just came out with new swimming suits. And they are super cute! As usual, they are actually cuter in real life than online. I am not going to do parties anymore, but if any of you are in need of a suit, I can still get them. And I will pass along my discount to you. Just click on the link to check them out and then let me know.

The sun is shining today and it is so pretty. Even though it is cold outside, it looks beautiful. Yesterday I sat on my couch for about a 1/2 hour, just soaking up the sun. I love it and need it.

Who Knew?

Today was a day we planned to go to the zoo. We would have left earlier, but I was freezing cold this morning and it took me a LONG time to finally get warm. I am not sure why that happens some times. I really think it has something to do with being all sweaty in the mornings. Anyway, I finally got warm. By then it was about lunch, so we grabbed a sandwich and hit the road.

Who knew the rest of the valley had the same idea. Why are there so many people who plan a zoo day in February. There was NO parking. We drove around a bit looking, but found nothing. So we left. We will try again next week. Lucky for us, great grandma lives close by, so we went and visited her. Which is always good. She loves to see us and my kids love exploring in her backyard.

Since I hadn't even done the dishes, we left after a short visit so I could come home and get the house clean. I logged onto my blog and listened to my playlist while I mopped the floor and wiped down surfaces. And I really like my playlist! It made my work a lot happier. If my house would stay clean for a long time, that would make me happier too.

This morning I also read some blogs. There are some amazing people out there who make me feel very boring and untalented. But it is fun to live vicariously through you. Especially those who live in more exotic places than Utah...Tonight is book club. I am excited. Mostly because I am ready to get into a new book. Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE reading? It is one of my favorite things to do. Any great book suggestions? And by suggestions, I mean all time favorites.

Cast Your Votes!

So I found some baptism photo cards yesterday! I had a hard time deciding between the b&w and the color. I think I prefer the b&w, but I got out voted. What do you think? The back is super cute too, but I didn't want to share too much information on the internet.

And now for the important stuff. Who is going to win the bachelor? Do you think it will be Melissa or Molly? I just don't know. Those tv people sure can make things tricky!

Please Help!

Where (or better how) do people make those cute photo invitations? I love the ones that are printed on cardstock and don't look so glossy. I would love to make one or even find one that I like and stick my photo in it. If you have any of this knowledge, please share.

My boys are having a birthday party next month. What do I do? I need some great game ideas or activities. Have you heard about some great birthday ideas? Please share!

I will be so happy and grateful for any help!

The Good Old Days

No, I am not talking about the 80's or when I was a kid. I am talking about when my babies were babies.

This week we went to the Blue and Gold Banquet for my twins who will be 8 this year. Wow, this is a big year for those boys. There are lots of new things for them to participate in and work at. The banquet was nice, my kids had a great time. Upon arriving in the gym, they were greeted with hugs from another set of boy twins their age in our ward. My boys love this other set of twins. I am sure it is fun for them to have friends that are twins. I guess the only way to know what it is like to be a twin, is being a twin. So I imagine they are able to relate to each other really well.

Part of me was/is mad at the scouting program. To me it is a constant reminder that my babies are growing up. When I think of scouts, I think of a few years of fun, then becoming an eagle scout, then gone to college and on a mission. Scouting gives me a timetable reminder that my boys are going to be gone soon. And it makes me sad. I remember when they were born and how happy I was to be a mother. There wasn't anything I wanted more. And I loved taking care of those 2 babies and being home with them all day.

Ethan came right along and soon enough I was home with 3 babies. It was hard. I was so limited in what I could and couldn't do. And everyone told me to enjoy it because they grow up so fast. I really did enjoy it!

I remember feeding 3 babies. I remember all of the clean up from eating. I remember taking them places and having fun. I also remember taking them places and getting so mad because they were misbehaving. I loved it though, all of it. Everyone always said how as they grow up, you become busier, it is just different. I feel as though I am entering that stage. The stage I am in has been the best. I have had a breather. I have been able to have some freedom while they are in school and their lives are still simple. Now here comes the scouting program to make things more difficult. I know scouting is good, I just know that it is going to be a lot of work for me and I know that it is going to last for a long, long time (because I have 4 boys in a row)!

So here is to the good old days. When I stayed at home, changed diapers, and tried to survive until my husband got home. They were great times. Now is good too. It is just hard to see them change and grow up.

$156 Down*

I just started a new job. At least that is how I am going to look at it. It cost me $156 to get started and that will last me the whole year. Hopefully I will make it up in my work. I am going to be a coupon clipper and a pinching your pennies grocery shopper. I am not really in a position to work right now. And financially I don't need to, but I have four growing boys and I am hopping to cut down on our grocery bill. Wish me luck! I am going to Albertsons today and see what I can get. I heard there are some great sales going on and you don't even need coupons.

*Oh, the $156 down was for 4 newspaper subscriptions for a year. Perfect example of me not putting enough thought into this and publishing before even proof-reading!

Happiness

Yesterday I ran into a friend at the grocery store. She used to live in our ward and then they moved into a brand new house. A big brand new house. She is a sweet, humble, and hard working person. I asked how they were doing and if they were still in the same house. She said that they were, but that she didn't know for how much longer. She mentioned something about foreclosure. I felt so bad. But she is sweet and positive and said, "My husband is working, my children have testimonies, and we are happy."

That just puts it all in perspective. I have been nervous about this economy. We have been SOOO blessed so far. But I know it won't last for ever. But I guess as long as we have our testimonies, we can be happy. I love my little family and hope we can remember what is most important as tough times come. I know they are coming, I just can't shake the feeling.

On a lighter note when Tyler left for preschool this morning he said, "I love you too Mom, have fun!" It is fun to have a little break, but I sure do enjoy having him around, at least most of the time.

Admission to Trashiness

So I did put a lot of thought into this. I thought, "What should I write about today? Maybe I could write about the Utes to get a comment from my friend Janice (if she had a blog, I would have linked it with her name, but she is still hesitating)." Yesterday my mother in law was here and we went shopping, I could write about that. And I thought about a movie I saw this weekend. I could write a lot about that, but I will spare you the soap box. I still haven't written about Valentines Day, but it was pretty normal. I could write about how I led the music in church and I don't think my pits even got sweaty. There are a lot of things to write about, but what is most recently on my mind (prepare yourself) is The Bachelor.

I blame my running partner for causing me to watch this dumb show. She likes it and in an effort for conversation I watched the finale last year. Since it involves some of the same people, she was excited to watch this season as well. I too have been watching this whole season. And let me tell you it is TRASHY! And let me tell you this, I cannot wait for this finale!
They have really built it up as something spectacular. On a side note, although I have watched this season, I consider probably about 1/2 of every episode "unwatchable." The only way I can get through it is with my trusty DVR. I mean how much alcohol do they go through on this show? They should give us some statistics kind of like when you go to the MTC and they tell you how many tons of lucky charms they go through. I bet it is a lot. And those girls are crazy! You have to know you will get dumped eventually. Getting dumped is humiliating, yet they all sign up to do it on national television, crazy! And like my husband said, "no wonder these relationships don't work, they have to watch the show afterwards." Who wants a man or a husband who is "falling in love" with 3 or 4 girls and has to sleep with them all to help make up his mind? I don't!

Anyway, they make this season out to be the "most dramatic!" We will see. Does anyone else out there watch this show? What do you think is going to happen?

Diarrhea of the Blog

Sometimes people talk too much. Sometimes it drives my husband crazy. When this happens he likes to say that people have "diarrhea of the mouth". Pretty gross, huh. But it makes sense. Recently I have decided I have "diarrhea of the blog". I blog about something and then I think, "Oh, I should have called it this!" or "I should have mention this." And what you end up reading is not what should have been the final draft. I have been blogging too quickly without much thought. So here is to better blog entries with a little more thought.

It Started Out A Little Off...

Yesterday was a perfectly normal day. I returned to the gym after several days hiatus (Kirk had been out of town which forced me to sleep in since I couldn't leave my kids home alone in the morning). It felt good to go back after catching up on my sleep. My legs have been tired and sore and they actually feel better after running. So I came home, showered, got the kids ready, and we left to pick up the carpool early! That never happens. But it did yesterday. After the kids were dropped off to school, I got ready to take Tyler to preschool and help with his Valentine party. It was then that I realized I had left my cell phone in Kirk's car. I called Kirk and he confirmed it was there. How did we ever live without cell phones? Sometimes I just don't know.

So after 2 hours of preschoolers and sugar, I was a little TIRED! I sat on the couch for a few minutes, chatted with my mom and Kirk. Kirk just realized he had left his wallet at home, oops! And I then planned all the errands that I needed to run in the next few hours. Tyler and I had lunch and then the phone rang. It was David and he was crying. So we left to go pick him up from school. Good thing he called before we left because I didn't have a cell phone.

David fell off of the top of the slide and landed on his back. As soon as we got home I gave him some Tylenol and listened to a message from my angry husband. He had gone to pick up my desk and without his ID, they wouldn't let him take it. He had just talked to me and couldn't figure out why I wasn't picking up. So I got ahold of him and got that straightened out, and then I called David's pediatrician, and he recommended that we go to Primary Children's Emergency Room. I hate emergency rooms! I asked, "are you sure?" and "what about insta-care?" But I was told to head to primary's, so we did. But first I had to drive to Kirk's work and trade Tyler for my cell phone. Kirk came home and I left for the hospital.

And let me tell you about the mess I saw at the hospital! Poor little kids throwing up and no one even helping or noticing, a man bragging about his 17 year old daughter giving birth, a little girl crying in pain from a broken arm who had been there for hours, crowds of people who didn't speak English and needed interpreters, little boys with pierced ears, a rough looking mom (who forgot to put the jewelry in her cheeks so she was sporting holes instead) cuddling a sick infant. It was awful. And we waited amongst them for about 2 hours.

After x-rays and a CT scan, they determined nothing had been broken. Yipee! They gave us some instructions and sent us home, finally! We got home about 9:00 pm and had dinner. We were both starving. David got a blessing and is going to be just fine (although he can't play in his last basketball game and he is missing his Valentines party). We feel lucky and blessed! Also when I got home, I had this waiting for me.

Shopping Success!

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was having a bad day. Well it was because I got a new calling, sort of. I was called to be the ward chorister. I am not a music person and have NEVER led the music in Sacrament Meeting. Nor did I ever want to. So I hesitated to say yes. And then I was racked with guilt. I cried and cried. This is seriously the LAST calling that I would ever want. And I seriously did not want to do it. So I told the bishopric and they prayed about it some more. I am sure you are thinking that I am a big baby and obviously I over react, but this was a rough experience for me. I know better than to turn down callings, but I still didn't want to do this. I had to reflect on my testimony. Luckily I still have one:) Weeks later the bishopric came back and said they still wanted me to do this. They also were going to call someone else to help. That was nice of them since I still teach Sunday School. So this Sunday I will be leading the music. Unless I make myself sick. I trust this is the right thing for me and I hope I make it through.

In the midst of all this drama, I told my husband that if I was going to do this, then I was going to treat myself to some new church clothes. I have a few basics that I mix and match, but I need something new. New clothes brighten my mood and in turn will help me have a better attitude about this calling. So I went shopping and it was a success! That was quick, right? I found lots of cute stuff. So watch out Young Women, hopefully we won't be twiners. I found a couple of things. Among them, this skirt. I bought it in white and it is the best. It is something that I will probably wear everyday when spring is here. It is sooooooooo comfortable. Which is just my style. Could it get any better? Yes! It is also knit! No ironing. I wanted one in gray too, but they didn't have my size:(

Can You Help Me?

I would like a new dress or a skirt and top. I even have the permission and encouragement from my husband. But where in the world do you find such clothes? I am off to check out the local Shade and Down East stores but, I would like something a little more original. And it would be nice NOT to wear the same outfit as the young women in my ward. Anyway, just wondering, where do you like to shop?

Open House

We went to the Draper Temple Open House today. The temple is BEAUTIFUL! Just as every temple is. I remember going to the open house for the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. One of the rooms that stood out to me was the bride's room. It was amazing! I got married in the Manti Temple and don't really remember the bride's room. I am sure it was pretty and I was probably preoccupied. Well the bride's room in this temple is amazing. I loved the couch and the pillows. I think it is wonderful that they actually make a room in temples for the bride. And it isn't just any room, it is a beautiful room. It is quite possibly the second most pretty room in the temple, the celestial room being the prettiest.

Afterwards they shuttle you right out to a church building. You enter the cultural hall which is filled with beautiful art work, warm rugs, and amazing decorations. They even serve you cookies and little bottles of water. It was by far the prettiest cultural hall I have ever seen! Who knew a gym could look so good?

Sometimes I Forget...

Today I went to Costco and used my coupons. There were some good ones. And it went a lot better this time. Last week I went there and had my cart half loaded up before I realized the coupons hadn't even started yet. Lucky for me I realized this before I got the the register.

A Kid Again

Last night we bought and watched Madagascar 2. We went and saw it as a family in the theaters and loved it. Last night was no exception. That movie is hilarious! I love it. The penguins, King Jullian, and Moto Moto are so darn funny! I know we will watch it again and again. And we will laugh out loud every time.

I just watched HSM (High School Musical). Go ahead and laugh or gag or whatever. It is a super cheesy movie. But today as I watched it, I felt like a little teenage girl (maybe because my husband is out of town...) and all of the sudden I thought, "Troy Bolton is hot!" I get why all of those girls go nuts. Who wouldn't love to be Gabriel Montez or whatever her name is. Wouldn't we all love the attention of the cutest, most popular boy at school. Even if it was just to toy with their emotions. They make high school look like so much fun.

Since my husband is gone he gave me my Valentines present early. A shiny, new, pink, nintendo ds, to keep me company. My kids are just as excited as I am. Which is funny because they all have their own. They even wanted to play mine and use my pink stylus. Silly boys. But it is pretty exciting. I love it!

So even though it is Sunday, there will be no "Sunday Dinner" today. After church we had grilled cheese sandwiches and soup (from a can). And in honor of being a kid again, I told the kids to go down in the storage room and pick out their favorite sugar cereal. And whatever they pick out, will be dinner. Yummy don't you think? I think so.

25 Random Things

This little ditty has been making its way around facebook. I thought I would post it here as well. I don't know about that whole facebook thing.

1. I want my own Nintendo DS. Mostly I just play Skipbo, but I really, really want Tetris!
2. I don't really like sports. But I did marry a HUGE sports fan, who just informed me that he would like to be a sports broadcaster. I think he would be great at it, but a little too late for a career change:)
3. My mom used to always tell me, "You'll marry the kind of person you date." Meaning, be careful who you are dating. I just thought, "Whatever, I am not going to marry some one from Richfield," but I did and now I count my marriage as one of my greatest blessings!
4. I also count my mission as one of my greatest blessings.
5. I feel really bad that I never got a little girl.
6. Jane Eyre is my favorite book and has been since I read it in high school. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a close second favorite.
7. I LOVE Christmas. I love the decorations, the colors, the music, the smell, the excitement, the giving, and the anticipation.
8. I wish I lived near the ocean.
9. My favorite jeans are Big Star.
10. I LOVE being a mom.
11. I hate getting dirty. I think I am allergic to dust.
12. Weeding is very theraputic for me. I love to pick out the bad parts and make things pretty.
13. I love flowers. I love to plant them and receive them.
14. I wish I could grow a garden like my dad.
15. When I work out, I sweat A LOT. The only person I have ever seen who sweats as much as I do is my dad.
16. A long time ago, I had really nice handwriting. I never write any more.
17. I hate being told what to do.
18. I've always wanted to go to Cosmetology school.
19. If I could go back to college for fun, these are some of the classes I would take: calligraphy, cake decorating, floral arranging, creative writing, and more interior design.
20. My mom made me take piano lessons when I was living at home, I wish I would have practiced and cared about improving. I love playing the piano now.
21. I am not very good at making friends. I put my foot in my mouth a lot.
22. I like baking, but I do not bake bread or grind wheat.
23. I love a good romance. Especially when set to music. The Sound of Music in my all time favorite.
24. Before kids, I taught 5th grade. I loved teaching about the Revolutionary War and I loved the children's literature.
25. I love to travel. I haven't really done a lot of traveling, but I hope to some day.

The Snuggie

My husband has got the flu, or something like that. He has been shivering and bundling up tonight. After being tucked in, Tyler wandered out to get something and saw Kirk applying more blankets. He said, "Dad, you need to get a snuggie. It is a blanket and it has sleeves. You can put your arms in it." I couldn't stop laughing. He sure has learned a lot from the tv.

A Gold Star

I am a stay at home mom. I find it very difficult to get things done. My floor goes un-mopped, the bathrooms don't get deep cleaned, and sometimes we run out of clean clothes. Forget about hobbies. Who am I and want to I like to do? I forget sometimes. But that is ok, I love what I do. Even if it never gets done.

Yesterday I mopped the floors (it had been a long while) and cleaned the blinds and windows. Then today I ran 8 miles. I am so proud of myself. Silly and small accomplishments you may think, but I think I deserve a gold star.

Shake Your Groove Thing...

This morning at breakfast Tyler was singing, "shake your boob-ez, shake your boob-ez, oh yeah!" I have absolutely no idea where he got that from. It gave us a good laugh.

7 Mile Saturday

Saturday was a 7 mile day. We had to run somewhere. It was too cold outside (and it was raining) and the gym? Well we just get so sick of those blasted tread mills. So my trusty running partner suggested we go to the Olympic Oval. I have actually never been there, but I thought it would be a good option. So we drove out there to try it. And you know what? It was great! Because of the ice, they keep it quite cool. It really was an enjoyable 7 miles. There were skaters to watch, a little karate thing going on, and even some athletes from the U of U. Very entertaining. And to top it all off, we saw Apolo. He was actually running the track.

When I got home, I told my family. Kirk didn't believe me, but I finally convinced him. I had to explain to my kids who he was. To which David replied, "He was on Dancing With the Stars?!?"

I told him he was and then he followed up with a tough question. "Mom," he said, "Which do you like better, Dancing With the Stars or American Idol?" Tough right? I think I like American Idol better. What about you? Or maybe you are not such a TV junkie as me...

By the way, you should see his legs! They are huge! All muscle!

You Had Me at BB Gun

Yesterday was the baptism preview for my twins. Holy cow! They are going to be 8! I can't believe it. They are both so excited. We have talked about baptism this week, knowing we would be attending the preview on Sunday. David asked if he could be baptized in the "Jordan River." I thought that was pretty sweet, but reminded him how lucky we are to have a baptismal font. I remember on my mission we had to fill an above ground swimming pool for baptisms in one area. In another area we a a font, but no hot water. My companion and I spent some time boiling large pots of water to take the chill off. So we really are lucky to have a font, and warm water is certainly a bonus! David also asked who was going to baptize him. I told him his dad, of course. He said that was good, but his second choice was his grandpa. I thought that was pretty sweet.

So Sunday finally arrived and we went to the preview. It was a pretty typical meeting. A member of the bishopric let them wander down into the font, that was pretty fun. And then they had an activity day leader and a cub scout leader speak to the group. First up was the activity day leader. She talked about some of the projects and activities the girls had done and would be doing. She mentioned making crafts, flip flops, gratitude books, and cleaning the toys in the nursery. There was an audible groan from my boys. They were happy to find out that they would not be participating in activity days. Especially because Jacob said, "what are flip flops?"

Next up was the cub scout leader. She was very energetic and excited! She talked about getting their bobcat, uniforms, and saluting the flag. And then she said something like, "we learn to shoot bb guns and bows and arrows and..." At this point there was an audible "YES!" from my boys. They didn't hear anything else. They are so excited to be cub scouts. I am so excited for them as well. It is so much fun to see them grow up and to see how eager they are to do what is right. I love it!

It's Noon

I have spent most of the day on the couch cuddled in a blanket reading the Ensign. I love it when it comes in the mail. I confess, I only read the short articles. But most of them are short. I usually just miss out on 2 or 3 articles. But I love the Ensign. I read it every month. Even with my blanket and slippers I was still freezing. Sometimes I think that it takes me a long time to warm up after working out in the mornings. If I didn't have to get the kids ready for school, I would just stay in the shower. I love a warm shower in the morning.

I wasted some time this morning reading some blogs and eating half a bag of cheetos (a regular size bag, not a snack size) with Tyler (who is still in his pajamas and it really is noon). I usually check my email each day. For the past 6 months or so, I keep getting "invites" to be friends with people on facebook. Hmmm...I am not so sure what I think about facebook. I was reunited with a missionary companion through facebook and for that reason, I LOVE it. But I find it so bizarre in so many ways. It is a little like a continuation of high school. Maybe that is because so many of my "friends" on facebook are from high school. I find it exciting, interesting, and sad to see the things that people are putting out there. It is amazing how a person can change so much, good or bad. And through it all, you still have to wonder what the truth actually is. Same with blogging. You can paint a canvas for everyone to see what you would like them to see, but you usually don't get the whole picture.

So here is the picture at our house today. The sink is full of dishes, the house is a mess, Tyler in his pajamas, me dressed and wearing slippers and a jacket (and finally warm), and me thinking for the first time ever that I would kind of like to be back in college again. After reading some blogs, I wish I were a better writer. I think it would be fun to take a writing class. I wish I could put my thoughts into words better. Not so I could make my life seem better, but because I would like to write about my life as it really is, to capture it better. My mom is an English major. She probably wishes I was a better writer too. My sister is thinking about becoming an English major, I think she should do it!

PS I heard you can still get free make-up for a few more days, so if you haven't already, head to the mall!

Bonus Time

Yesterday I missed the live showing of the inauguration. But it was free make-up day at the mall. How sweet is that? So I went and got some sweet stuff. I was hoping for more options, but I figured I left with about $80 in product, so I can't complain. If you bought make-up from Mac, Lancome, Channel, or a few others sometime between 1993 and 2003, then you were entitled to free make-up. All you had to do was show up, sign a paper, and pick your product. I love this new moisturizer! I also got some sweet stuff from Lancome. It was a good day. So far today I have done the dishes, brushed my teeth, watched The Biggest Loser, cleaned chocolate out of the carpet, put away Christmas decorations, and really that is about it. I have been super lazy.

Help! I would like to get some new bedding for my twins. Any suggestions of cheap, quality, not too cheesy, bedding?

My Little Chef

On Thursday, I made homemade rolls. They were very yummy. Tyler wanted to be a part of all of it. He was so fascinated that the dough would "grow". I gave him his own little scrap of dough. He literally did everything himself. He rolled out his dough, cut it into strips with the pizza slicer (he actually did this before I realized what he was doing, otherwise I would have supervised a little better), and rolled them into little rolls. He now calls himself a chef. I was very impressed with his little rolls, he ate them all, all by himself. It was a fun afternoon. And it kept him occupied while his brothers all went to basketball practice.

While we were in the middle of making rolls, Tyler informed me that there was something white in my hair. I thought, "It must be flour or something." I told him to get it out. He made a swipe with his hand, but said he couldn't get it out. He tried. He was running his fingers through my hair and everything. He kept insisting it was "stuck". Finally I asked, "Is it a hair?" To which he replied it was. I used to just pluck those things out, but now there are too many of them. It is sad:(

On a side note, the shoes I posted about are from Dillards. You can also get them online. Dillards has a great selection and I am sure you will find it hard to decide on just one.

My New Favorite Shoes!

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned! When shopping for shoes, comfort is right up there with appearance for me. I don't buy anything that isn't comfortable. I love Born shoes for this reason, but I am telling you, these are awesome! They are called Nurture and I totally recommend them. I got the ones with the strap for Christmas and wear them all the time with jeans. I recently picked up the black ones. I was debating between the black ones I got and a pair of flats. Although the flats were super cute, the heels were actually MORE comfortable. They are unbelievable. I have a bunch of new favorite things, maybe I will have to do a whole other post...

Spring Fever

I've got it bad! I want to pack up in the car and head south! We have had blue skies and "warmer" weather. Although it is still not warm enough for my taste. I love this weather and I am so glad it is not snowing! I am ready to be outside!

Some other exciting news, my great friend Melanie hooked me up to be a "secret shopper". I am so excited! Basically I have to shop at 5 different stores (all of which are great), fill out a paper about customer service, and spend $50 (that they give me in the form of a gift card). And then I have to go out for lunch (lunch for 2 actually) and they pay for it all (drinks, appetizers, dessert, tip, taxes, etc)! I am stoked! I look forward to doing this as much as they want.

And lastly, I really was upset earlier this week. I really do over react. I will have to post about the situation more next week. I am sure you are all going to have a good laugh when you hear about it. And I hope that someday I will too. It is still upsetting to me however. My husband deserves much praise for putting up with me. He even brought me home flowers. He is the best!

Realizations

Yesterday was a bad day for me. It will take me a long time to forget it. I kind of felt bad for Tyler. He was a good sport though. While I laid around and felt sorry for myself, he kept busy with his toys and TV. Luckily he got to go to a friend's house too. I am feeling much better today. It really is amazing how time can mend things.

Today I took a yoga class at the gym. It was my first time. We had to leave half way through, but it was pretty good. I hope to do it again. I know a lot of people really get into the yoga stuff, do you think you can get in shape with just yoga alone? Just wondering. I know it will take me awhile to be able to do what little moves we learned today.

I also went to Costco today. They have coupons right now. I am a sucker for a good deal. And I have already learned that the Kirkland detergent is still a lot cheaper even if you have a coupon for the Tide. Upon realizing this, I realized it was true with a lot of other products. I don't use as many coupons as I used to, but I am still a sucker for a good deal. As I was tallying up my savings in line, I realized that I probably didn't even NEED the things I was getting. I just bought them because they were a good deal and we will use them. Whoever makes those coupons is pretty clever.

My kids are starting piano lessons again. They were taking awhile ago, but their teacher quit. It will be good to get them started again. My son David has a really hard time with change. He over-reacts a lot. When I told him we were starting piano lessons again, he was very upset (even though he loved piano before). We talked to him about the teacher, drove by her house, and reassured him. A day or two later I heard him casually mention to his friend that he was starting piano again. I was impressed and excited as I realized his apprehension was gone.

After sulking a day or two myself, I totally realized where David gets it from. I have a hard time with change. But just like David, I eventually get over it. I may even over react a little.

Lunch Time

My boys come home from school real hungry, everyday. They are always raiding the kitchen for something to snack on. I used to ask, "Didn't you eat your lunch today?" Then I would have to get more specific like, "Did you eat ALL of your sandwich?" I would continue to ask about each thing. Upon realizing they weren't eating all of their lunches, I cut back. I made small and simple lunches so nothing would get wasted.

Earlier this week the twins informed me that they ate ALL of their lunches. I was pleased, even though they were still snacking. Then one of them said, "Ya mom, you need to start making us bigger lunches. They don't put the tether balls up in the winter."

Hit Counter

I just noticed that my little "hit counter" thing isn't working any more. It probably stopped at the beginning of the year. Does anyone know why? Is mine the only one not working?

"Oh Yah!"

Tyler's favorite thing to say lately is, "Oh yah!" Then it is followed by whatever he has just done or something that just happened. Today it was "Oh yah, I'm done with my breakfast, oh yah, I'm done."

Also on a completely different subject, he frequently blesses us (when he says the family prayer) that we can go to Seven Peaks. Today after the prayer, Kirk had to remind him that it was winter and it would be impossible to go there...

Thank You Day Time Television

This week I watched Oprah blab about why she has gained weight recently. Near the end of the episode, she had her trainer guy Bob on the there and they talked about a couple of questions you should ask yourself. The first one is "Why are you over weight?" And you can't answer because I like to eat. They expect you to dig deep and come up with some life changing answer, like I don't love myself or I am depressed.

My schedule today was such that I had some free time on my hands this morning. I really would like to lose some weight. It is something that I feel like I battle with. Although I am usually losing the battle, so really it isn't much of a battle. Anyway, I thought, "I wonder why I am overweight." I actually got out a piece of paper and started writing. I was hoping some deep issue would present itself and I could figure out why I like to eat.

As I started writing though, I just kept thinking that if everything were "perfect" maybe it would be easier to diet, easier to lose weight. By everything being perfect I was thinking, if I had a chef, if I had money to do whatever I wanted, if I had a personal trainer, etc... This is not a good path to go down and I don't recommend it. But along the way, the Hymn "Count Your Many Blessings" kept coming to my mind. Not just the music, but the words. These are some of the words that stood out to me-

"When you look at others with their lands and gold, think that Christ has promised you his wealth untold...
"So amid the conflict, whether great or small, do not be discouraged, God is over all. Count your many blessings; angels will attend, help and comfort give you to your journey's end."

I love those words. I think I will use and remember them all year long. I really could use some angels in my life. So I started writing down some of my blessings. I have thought about doing this many times, but have never actually done it. I really do have a lot of blessings and great things in my life.

So I don't really know why I am overweight. I just am. But after this little experience I feel much more resolve to try and fight the battle of the bulge. We'll see how it goes. And now for some of my blessings, in no particular order-

I thought this was pretty darn funny. Click here for the link. Enjoy, even if you are a BYU fan!

Dear Husband,

That new internet router thingy you installed really sucks. It took me minutes to get on line and it got slower and slower throughout the day. I was really wanting to look at tropical vacation destinations online because I nearly froze to death when I went shopping for groceries. Thanks for trying to fix it. Let's hope tomorrow is better.

A New Year

In 2001, I was blessed with twin boys. My husband and I became parents. Then we did it again and again and now we are the parents of four boys. They are all fairly young and parenting up to this point has been pretty basic. You know, food, affection, love, shelter, etc.

For the past couple of weeks I have become overwhelmed with the idea of being a parent and raising children. It seems my parenting role is starting to change emphasis. It has really hit me that I am influencing and shaping little minds that will affect the future. It kind of scares me. Before their needs were so basic and now we are influencing attitudes, opinions, perspectives, outlooks, ethics, politics, etc.

It is beginning to feel like I will be placed under a microscope and all my good qualities as well as imperfections will become magnified as my children develop and eventually grow into adults. It is scary! They are the future. Talk about a powerful influence!

So it is with that thought process that I made new years resolutions this year with good intentions of keeping them. I really would like to be a better me. I really hope my children turn out to be happy, successful people. I know that I can make a difference. So here is to a new year!
